The Royal Plaza Kurali - A Nature Lovers' Paradise

One of the most photographed locations in Kerala is the Royal Plaza located at Varkala in Kovalam. The Plaza is constructed entirely out of concrete and is the biggest tourist attraction of Varkala. It has a lot to offer but is popular mainly for the huge number ofashed elephants that wander around on a daily basis. The elephant show at the Plaza is a year-round attraction and attracts thousands of tourists every day.

The elephant tour is a fascinating experience and is a great way to learn about the lifestyle of the native tribes of Kerala. If you are not a fan of animals then the Plaza is also home to the Keralian version of an elephant safari. If elephant safaris aren't your thing, you can also go on a boat ride across the Vembanad Lake or have a look at the many restaurants and eateries lining the lake's edge.

An afternoon picnic in the evening is a favorite activity in Royal plaza kurali. There are a number of eateries here serving local and international cuisine. A nice change from the traditional fare of rice and fish curry is the lamb kebabs. You can also sample the traditional Periyar dinner, which is made up of rice, vegetables and chicken. Of course, there is enough of the traditional fare to pamper yourself with too. The entire place is quite picturesque with its lush greenery and tempting aroma of spices.

The main highlight of any trip to Kerala is the backwater cruise. Most tourists tend to bypass the cruise because they are tired of the hot sun and wish to get back to the cool shade of their rooms. But those who go on regular cruises usually fall in love with this part of Kerala and end up making it a regular destination. The backwaters of Kurali are surrounded by luxuriant jade green rice paddy fields and as a result are considered the finest rice in India.

For some shopping lovers the shopping at the Royal Plaza Kurali is like heaven. With boutiques displaying authentic ethnic handloom, the shopping here is immense and there is no dearth of options for you. You can buy some of the best local and art deco artifacts here, all well decorated to make you feel you have been transported back in time.

Apart from the shopping experience there are plenty of other things to do in Kurali. You can engage in a variety of water sports activities such as paragliding and banana boat boating. If you are not the adventurous type then you can enjoy a walk or drive around the picturesque hamlets here. The best part is that most of the activities are organized by the Royal Plaza itself. So you do not waste any time or money trying to organize an event of your own.
